Mumzworld – More than just mums

I’m a big, Big, BIG fan of online shopping. I miss the ease of online shopping found in the US/UK. My Aramex Shop’n’Ship account has been a godsend, but I do wish there were more local choices.

In recent times, e-commerce has picked up significantly in Dubai with both new players and big hitters setting up online portals (I highly recommend JadoPado for your Apple/Blackberry/gadget needs), but we still lack a powerhouse like Amazon in the region. That is why I was extremly excited to hear about Mumzworld.

Mumzworld calls itself the Middle East’s largest online shopping site for Everything Mother, Baby and Child. They currently have over 18,000 products and all the leading brands including Lego, Crayola, Barbie, and Mattel. Moreover, you get delivery within 2-3 days in the UAE and free delivery for all orders over 200 AED. Outside of the UAE? No worries, they promise to delivery within 7-10 days regionally as well.

So what can the average fashionista/beauty addict/Bollywood lover buy from Mumzworld? A lot! For starters they carry 2 amazing jewelery lines: Lovelinks and Sia Select. I purchased a beautiful necklace+earring set from Sia Select pre-Mumzworld but had to unfortunately coordinate cash payment and delivery myself. Thankfully that is all taken care via Mumzworld now.

They also carry a wide selection of beads, charms, necklaces and bracelets from Lovelinks.  They currently have a special deal going on where proceeds go to Breast Cancer Awareness, so support a great cause!

I couldn’t help buying the world edition of Monopoly last week. As a child, my parents always bought me “intellectual” games such as cardboard puzzles or mindbenders, but I decided to splurge in a classic board game.

Even if you aren’t a Mum, you can find plenty of things to keep your credit card busy. So check out the region’s newest shopping site and tell them Dollz sent you! You can also find them on Facebook and Twitter.

Disclaimer: I work with the Mumzworld team, so this post is written with a little bit of bias. Just a little ūüôā

The Body Shop SALE

Good news beauty addicts, The Body Shop is having a sale in all its stores across the UAE. Everything is discounted at a minimum of 25% and some of the older products are available for a bargain at 40-50% off.

I picked up the Ginger Anti-Dandruff Shampoo, Rainforest Moisture Conditioner, Tea Tree Blemish Gel, Strawberry Body Butter, Cocoa Butter Cream Scrub, and a Nail Buffer Block.  Total for all these items? A very reasonable AED 200.

Some of my favorites from the Body Shop are the Lemon Body Scrub and Body Butter for Dry Skin, the entire Tea Tree range (see benefits of Tea Tree Oil here), and their Lip Tint as well.

The Body Shop sale ends on September 4th, so hurry and stock up! Visit their Facebook page for a list of store locations.

Have you spotted any bargains lately? Let us know by sending an email to

Toujours Chic

My friends always say that I overthink everything. I agree and I’m the same way about blogging. ¬†Most of my blog posts are ideas that have festered for a few days (or months) and suffered through several rewrites prior to being published. ¬†But sometimes you hear about something brilliant and have to share with your readers immediately. So here we go!

The lovely Mrs. Dubai posted a comment on my Bag-onomics post about the website Toujours Chic.

Toujours Chic is an online boutique where you can buy pre-owned designer bags. ¬†Their range is extensive with designers like Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Hermes, and Dior. ¬†You can also sell your bags through them. ¬†I think it is a fabulous idea considering that most of us tire of handbags easily and this way you can indulge without breaking the bank. ¬†I haven’t had the chance to order anything yet but I have my eyes on a few pieces already!

Dior Fuchsia Fabric Hobo РAED 1890
Gucci Fabric Large Tote – AED 1490
Louis Vuitton Papillion – AED 1290

I’ve seen several websites like these in the US and I’m glad for a local alternative. You can also check out their physical store in Mirdiff. So warm up your credit cards and check out Toujours Chic. And Dollz in Dubai’s financial planner approves this!

Urban Decay Naked Palette Available in Dubai

Urban Decay Naked Palette Available in Dubai

ATTENTION – WE’VE MOVED! Dollz in Dubai has moved to Find this and more related articles there.

A few months back we be broke the news that Urban Decay was finally available in Dubai. ¬†A lot of the Dubai beauty addicts (us included) gave our credit cards a workout while ooh-ing over the amazing UD range. ¬†Well get those credit cards ready because the much-awaited eyeshadow Naked Palette is finally available in Dubai! A few lucky ones were able to snag the limited pieces from the first shipment but Sephora Dubai just received an extended stock of Naked Palettes. ¬†Sephora Mall of the Emirates and Dubai Mall are the only places in the Middle East to receive the exclusive palette and it is available for AED 220. The Naked Palette has been a big hit in the United States and even though it was first released in June 2010, I wasn’t able to find it in stores in the US last September, so I’m excited that it is finally available here. ¬†The Naked Palette is great because it contains a lot of wearable neutral colors along with a few colorful ones to help transition your day look to night. ¬†I highly recommend this palette for eyeshadow novices as it will give you a great selection to start from and play with. Eyeshadow shades included are:

  • Virgin – shimmery nude
  • Sin – shimmery pink (my favorite shade of Urban Decay Primer Potion)
  • Naked – matte beige
  • Sidecar – shimmery bronze
  • Buck – matte beige brown
  • Half Baked – shimmery gold (LOVE this one)
  • Smog – shimmery dark bronze
  • Darkhouse – shimmery bronze brown
  • Toasted – shimmery pink bronze
  • Hustle – shimmery brown
  • Creep – shimmery blue black
  • Gunmetal – shimmery bluish grey (LOVE this one too)
The US version comes with a dual-ended eyeliner but the Middle East version comes with an eyeshadow brush and mini version of the Primer Potion in original to help get you started.
So hurry up and pick up your Naked Palette today!

Si Fashion Galerie Designers’ Contest 2011

Last week we were invited to the launch event of Si Fashion Galerie Designers’ Contest 2011. Starting from the 25th of May to the 31st of July, pieces from 18 upcoming designers will be on display at the Si Fashion Galerie. ¬†The winning designer will be selected through a combination of votes from the judging panel, as well as sales of actual pieces.

This was a lively event and a great platform for upcoming designers to showcase their talent.  What we loved most about the event was the variety of work between the designers under a single venue. There was also a great range of conservative, but glamourous clothes, for those women who prefer to cover up a little more.

So if you are looking for some summer colorful wedding outfits, check out Si Fashion Galerie and support the talented local designers.

Si Fashion Galerie is located on Jumeira Beach Road, Villa 399B. Visit Si Fashion Galerie for more information or contact them at 04-3490775.

I’m LUSHing it!

Call it Indian Mum’s influence or living in LA for 4 years, but I’m an absolute sucker for anything natural or organic. ¬†So it isn’t surprising that one of my favorite stores is LUSH!

One of the best things about Lush (especially the Mercato Mall, Dubai) is the helpfulness of the store attendants. They will gladly assist you or let you explore on your own. Also I’ve never walked out of there without a few samples. As a matter of fact, most of my purchases have been thanks to an amazing sample recommendation I took home. Their most popular product are the deliciously scented bath bombs. However don’t let the strong scents scare you, as Lush has a great range of products.

1. R&B – Hair Moisturizer

That isn’t a typo because there is such a thing as a hair moisturizer. ¬†This is a godsend for us girls (and even guys) with wavy, curly and rebellious hair. On days that you might require some extra control, it tames fly aways and helps makes styling much easier. It also has ingredients like oat milk, avocado butter, orange blossom and jojoba oil which are nourishing and smell amazing.

2. Tea Tree Water

I’ve mentioned the benefits of Tea Tree Oil before and I absolutely love this toner from Lush. It’s great for combination skin and helps regulate the oily T-zone problem.

3. Shangri-La Moisturizer

I asked the ladies at Mercato for a thick night cream and they recommended this.¬†Admittedly, it’s an anti-ageing cream, but it’s so stupendously rich, that a few dots of this works brilliantly at night and protects you from the over-drying effects of the AC. It has a rich mixture of coconut and almond oil without being greasy.

4. Mint Julip Lip Scrub

Dubai has an obsession for collagen-filled lips with even the ladies at Saks pushing their lip-plumping glosses. While I appreciate the bee-stung look, I think natural is better. The lip scrub is great for exfoliating your lips and brings a natural plumpness to your lips. It’s also a delicious product that you can’t help but lick your lips.

5. Angels on Bare Skin Exfoliator

This was another discovery via sample. I’m a big fan of apricot/walnut scrubs from St. Ives or Himalaya Herbals and Angels has the same consistency. It’s a little messy to apply but it absolutely works magic on your skin. I just picked up my full-sized jar.

Dubai Lush lovers have some good news because it seems like they’ve recently changed franchise owners. For years, the only Lush shop was in Dubai City Center. However, they’ve recently opened up in Mercato and will soon be opening in Dubai Mall giving everyone an easier way to look Lush!

Deal Alert: N.Bar

This post was 1st published on

Manicures and pedicures are my monthly luxuries.  There is something about having freshly scrubbed feet painted with a shiny color which feels so therapeutic.  Even in university, I used to schedule a mani-pedi as a post-finals stress buster.
One of the advantages of Dubai is the numerous number of nail salons with a vast bouquet of services available.  In general, a mani-pedi combo will set you back somewhere between AED 120-140 not including tip. If your budget is a little smaller, try heading to the smaller, multi-purpose salons in Karama or Satwa.
This month I decided to head over to N.Bar in Palm Strip, Jumeirah.  I chose N.Bar because they are having their Dirham Diva promotion. For AED 350 you get a voucher that entitles you to:
  • 2 manicure-pedicure combos (2 x 140 = 280)
  • 2 polish changes (2 x 30 = 60)
  • 2 head, neck, and shoulder massages (2 x 65 = 130)
  • 1 eye brow shaping (40)
The normal cost of all these treatments would be AED 510 so it‚Äôs definitely a great deal. ¬†You can purchase the vouchers from 1st March ‚Äď 30th April 2011 and the voucher is valid for 6 months from the date of purchase.
The girls at N.Bar are quick and efficient and they have a great selection of Essie colors.  The only downside is that unlike N Style (that plays Friends or Seinfeld episodes), you have to entertain yourself with magazines or just relax.
Dollz Tip: If you are in a rush, splurge on the Essie Quick Drying Drops for only AED 5.  Your manicure will be smudge/dent proof within seconds.
As a side note, N.Bar is the only retailer of Deborah Lippmann polishes in Dubai. If you are a polish junkie, you MUST try these out. Check out this space for a detailed review soon.
My boss thinks female engineers shouldn’t bother with girlie things like getting nails done.  I highly disagree with him so decided to go with an extremely girly fuchsia creme I could find: Essie’s Exotic Liras. Like it?
