Miss Piggy for MAC

I’m a huge Muppets fan, especially Miss Piggy. And some of my friends might even say that I tend to get as dramatic and needy as Miss Piggy does.  So of course I was excited to find out there was a Muppets movie out this Thanksgiving:

And now, MAC Cosmetics have announced a special Miss Piggy collaboration! This collection will only be sold online and will consist of the main items you need to get Miss Piggy’s dramatic eyes: blue-pink eyeshadow, liquid liner and mascara. What’s more, there is even a Muppets-themed OPI collection!

I can’t wait for Thanksgiving! And even though this collection might not be available in Dubai, I’ll definitely be placing my online order. Anything for Miss Piggy!

(And I just realized what I should be this Halloween…)

How much makeup do you wear?

For the past few months, I’ve considerably cut down on how much makeup I wear. Mostly because it saves time in the morning and I don’t need to go through a rigorous cleansing ritual at the end of the night.

Recently, a study by Procter & Gamble, Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School, and others did a comparison study on women wearing no makeup or one of three different cosmetic looks — natural, professional or glamorous.

Studies showed that upon a quick glance, the faces with makeup were perceived to be more attractive. However, when examining the photos for longer periods, the glamorous makeup wearers were thought to be less trustworthy. [ABC News]

So what do you think? Does the amount of makeup a person wears affect your perception of them? What is the appropriate amount of makeup to wear?

Tuesday Tip – Polish Care

This is our weekly section, Tuesday Tip. No matter where you work, Tuesdays tend to be the dullest day of the week. So to combat the general “meh”-ness, we bring to you a quick tip to perk up your day!

Also, if you do happen to try out our Tuesday Tip, send us a photo and we’ll feature you in our column!

====================

Tuesday Tip – Issue 16 – Polish Care

At 130 AED a pop, Chanel nail polishes can get pretty expensive.  So the last thing you want is that bottle to dry up before you’ve had your share of yellow “Mimosa” nail tips.  Want to know the secret of maintaining your collection of nail polishes?

Unopened nail polishes will last pretty much forever.  There might be some settling but the viscosity of the polish will remain the same.  However, while using the polish, we tend to swipe excess polish on the rim of the bottle.  Over time, layers accumulate preventing a tight seal of the cover and bottle, thereby drying out your polish.

While getting a mani this week, I noticed the beautician do a little trick before putting back the bottle of Essie polish she had applied.  First, remove all excess polish from the brush around the rim as normal.  Then take an acetone-soaked cotton ball and wipe the rim clean.  Close the bottle and you’ll notice the cap goes on tighter than ever.

There you go, polishes will last forever this way! Also, if you don’t use polishes often, store them in your refrigerator. It is especially useful during the steamy Dubai summers.

Now you can justify that bottle of Chanel, will *probably* last forever.

10 Ways to Dress Like A Glitter Girl

Blogging isn’t just about writing, but reading as well. I came across this adorable list of 10 ways to dress like a glitter girl from The Glitter Guide. I’m never one to shy away from glitter/shine/color so all these tips are Dollz-approved!

  1. Jeans with button-up blouse and a chunky necklace (heels or flats are a stylish option).
  2. A colorful dress paired with classic nude heels.
  3. A diamond necklace with a striped blouse during the day.
  4. A vintage chiffon party dress with a blazer and a statement clutch (mix feminine with masculine).
  5. A sequin top paired with grungy boyfriend jeans (a colorful pout is a plus).
  6. A leather jacket with feminine accessories (like a hair bow and floral print skirt).
  7. A chic tailored suit with pumps and a statement necklace.
  8. A lace top with a pencil skirt and ballet flats (add a leopard print handbag for fun).
  9. Wedges with bright wide leg trousers and silk blouse and a fedora hat.
  10. A sequin dress with stilettos and a smile (optional: a glass of champagne).
  11. Addition by Dollz: A swipe of glitter eyeliner in the day or night.
So how do you channel your inner Glitter Girl?

Workwear from Bebe

Ask any woman from the coroporate world and she will agree that finding the perfect outfit for work can be stressful.  How do you look fashionable and respectable without looking too frumpy or matronly? And in this region we need to be mindful of the culture and ensure outfits are conservative and not overly sexy.

Express, Marks & Spencers, and New York & Company are some of my favorite brands for filling my workwear closet.  We even covered this twist on the button-down shirt on the blog sometime back. Thankfully, as women in the corporate world become more prevalent, more brands are devoting time for special workwear collections.

Bebe, until now well-known for its feminine, sexy clothing, is launching a special workwear collection. While some of the pieces might be a little too risqué for this cultural environment, I think there are pointers that can be incorporated into our outfits.

  • Match the hues of your blacks to give a sharp, sleek look.
  • Add some style to your outfits with chunky, metal accessories.
  • Add a blazer or tights to a structured dress to tone it down.
  • Mix and match leather with tweed and prints with neutrals.

To check out and shop the Bebe collection, visit their website.

So what do you think about the collection? Anything catches your eye or is it too trendy for work? How do you spruce up your office attire? Discuss!

Tuesday Tip – Makeup Organization

This is our weekly section, Tuesday Tip. No matter where you work, Tuesdays tend to be the dullest day of the week. So to combat the general “meh”-ness, we bring to you a quick tip to perk up your day!

Also, if you do happen to try out our Tuesday Tip, send us a photo and we’ll feature you in our column!

====================

Tuesday Tip – Issue 13 – Makeup Organization

I caught this video from Huda Beauty and couldn’t resist sharing.

I’m usually pretty organized but I did find the tips quite helpful:

  1. Toss expired products. Shelf-life for products are:
    Powders = 2 years, Liquid = 1 years, Eyeliner, Mascara = 3-6 months
  2. Throw away unused products.  My personal rule for this if you haven’t used it in a year, toss it!
  3. For every new product, toss an old.
  4. Store daily and special wear products in separate bins.

My personal preference for makeup storage are those clear mini drawers. Perfect for indulging my OCD!

Tuesday Tip – DIY Tinted Moisturizer

This is our weekly section, Tuesday Tip. No matter where you work, Tuesdays tend to be the dullest day of the week. So to combat the general “meh”-ness, we bring to you a quick tip to perk up your day!

Also, if you do happen to try out our Tuesday Tip, send us a photo and we’ll feature you in our column!

====================

Tuesday Tip – Issue 12 – DIY Tinted Moisturizer

If you are a regular reader of the blog you know I’m a big fan of tinted moisturizer.  Provided you eat well and take care of your skin, most of us don’t need anything more than tinted moisturizer and concealer on a daily basis. Save time and money by only using foundation for special night outs or occasions.

Tinted Moisturizer (TM) should do two things: be a great moisturizer and match your complexion seamlessly. Some of my favorites are Bobbi Brown, Laura Mercier, theBalm and Urban Decay.  Unfortunately some people complain that either the color doesn’t match or it isn’t moisturizing enough.  So here are a couple of options:

1. If you need more moisture, layer TM over your regular moisturizer.  Just give the moisturizer a few minutes to absorb before applying the TM.

2. If you have sensitive skin, mix your shade of mineral foundation with your favorite moisturizer.  I like the one from Bare Escentuals with a lightweight moisturizer like Olay.

3. If you need more coverage, take a full-coverage foundation and dilute it down. Make sure you get an exact foundation match otherwise it won’t look good. I like Revlon ColorStay and Lush Shangri-La for this combination.
