High School and Social Media

09 Feb

@halalalalala posted a link to a really cool infographic today.  But before you can see it, I want you to try something.

First, think back to your high school days (I really miss my ASD days!) and pick the top 3 traits that best characterize you from the list below:

  • A/V Nerd
  • Anarchist
  • Art Kid
  • Band Geek
  • Busybody
  • Class President
  • Compulsive Documenter
  • Debater
  • English Geek
  • Ex-Best Friend
  • Exchange Student
  • Exhibitionist
  • Gossip Girl
  • Goth
  • Jock
  • Nerd
  • Paper Bag Lunch Kid
  • Prep
  • Procrastinator
  • Reporter
  • Teacher’s Pet
  • Wannabe

For example, I was (and some of you might disagree with me): 1. Nerd, 2. Debater, 3. Gossip Girl/Teacher’s Pet

Second, out of the following list of Social Media websites, pick the 3 you use the most:

  • Digg
  • Facebook
  • Flickr
  • Formspring.me
  • Foursquare
  • Google
  • Last.FM
  • LinkedIn
  • Live Journal
  • MySpace
  • LinkedIn
  • Live Journal
  • MySpace
  • Orkut
  • Quora
  • Reddit
  • StumbleUpon
  • Tumblr
  • Twitter
  • Wikileaks
  • Wikipedia
  • WordPress
  • YouTube
  • Yelp

For me that would be: 1. Twitter, 2. Wikipedia, 3. Google

Now take a look at this infographic from Flowtown:

Isn’t this cool? I love this infographic and I think it’s going to make a perfect birthday present for some of the Social Media geeks I know.

According to my high school traits, this tells me that I must be spending most of my time on Wikipedia (check), Twitter (check), Yelp (unfortunately not available in the UAE), and Quora (on the to-do list).  I’m not quite sure I agree with the characterisation of “Prep” for Google but that might be because Google has evolved beyond being just a Social Media service.  I have decided to make more of an effort to use Quora actively and this is what I asked about Yelp a few months back (are you guys listening?):

I’m also slightly worried that WordPress is equivalent to an English Geek.  I enjoyed English in high school but I really wouldn’t classify myself as an English Geek. So I really hope my blogging career isn’t going to be short-lived as a result.

I must admit that I haven’t tried all these types of Social Media and as a result, I have increased respect for the Social Media geeks.

Have you tried all these forms of Social Media?  How did you match up?  Share you results!
